In June HTC unveiled its Vive Business Edition (BE) head-mounted display (HMD) focused on providing companies looking to employ virtual reality (VR) in commercial applications. NVIDIA is doing the same with its range of Quadro professional GPUs which the company has announced will arrive next month.
The HTC Vive BE launched in June to selected countries but from October it’ll be rolled out further. It includes everything a company needs to deploy VR on a wide scale, including a commercial license for business, cable extension up to 10 meters, a dedicated support line, fast delivery and an install and update service to easily deploy Vive Business Edition within a corporate IT network.
Companies using HTC Vive BE will be able to chose from three installation modes for SteamVR software. There’s an offline standalone installation with no internet connection, a manual update mode or automatic update mode. Software updates are then provided directly from an HTC server rather than Steam servers, this helps comply with typical corporate IT security policy requirements.
NVIDIA Pascal-based Quadro GPUs, the P6000 and P5000 have been designed to support new VR technologies, such as Simultaneous Multi-Projection, GPUDirect for Video, Warp & Blend and GPU Synchronization. The new GPUs will also have access to NVIDIA VRWorks SDK, which uses SMP to power Single Pass Stereo and Lens Matched Shading features to significantly improve graphics performance for VR

Global companies have been enthusiastic adopters of VR. Car companies such as Audi, Ford, BMW and Daimler have used VR to drive car sales, while architectural firms such as AEcom and Gensler use VR to create virtual walkthroughs.
