HTC has be making sure its HTC Vive head-mounted display (HMD) can be purchased from as many outlets as possible, whether that’s online or through brick and mortar stores. Today its announced customers will now be able to purchase the headset from one of the world’s largest online retailers Amazon.
Currently only available for US customers through Amazon.com, the HTC Vive costs $799 USD and comes with free shipping. A collaboration between HTC and Valve, the headset comes with Room Scale positional tracking allowing users to experience virtual reality (VR) in an area up to 15 feet by 15 feet . The kit comes with two Lighthouse base stations and two wireless motion controllers.
The HTC Vive also comes bundled with three titles, Google’s Tilt Brush, The Gallery – Episode 1: Call of the Starseed by Cloudhead Games and Acceleroto’s Zombie Training Simulator all for free. This replaced the previously available bundle last month which consisted of Job Simulator by Owlchemy Labs, Fantastic Contraption by Northway Games and Google Tilt Brush.
In addition to Amazon, HTC VIVE is available in the US to purchase direct from HTC at www.vive.com, select Microsoft Stores, GameStop and Micro Center locations and online at Microsoft, GameStop, Micro Center and Newegg.
There’s no details on plans to bring HTC Vive to Amazon’s other region specific sites, currently the UK version does have a listing dated 2017 so the possibility of wider availability is likely.
VRFocus will continue its coverage of HTC Vive, reporting back with all the latest announcements.
