Virtual reality (VR) production studio Here Be Dragons (HBD) – formerly Vrse.works – has created a 360-degree music video for multi-platinum, Grammy nominated US pop rock band OneRepublic’s latest single Kids.
Directed by HBD’s Hal Kirkland in collaboration with Nokia Technologies, Universal Music Group, MPC and Interscope Records, the immersive experience follows the story of two teenagers who live across the street from one another in Mexico City.
Fredrik Montan Frizell, COO and Executive Producer, Here Be Dragons said: “Creating VR today is about challenging what’s been done in the past. In this project we set out to do the first one take VR experience with over 100 actors perfectly choreographed to tell a love story between a girl and a boy living in opposite apartments.”
Filmed using Nokia OZO cameras, these two confident, stubborn and impetuous kids both have big dreams and ambitions, and as all teenagers do they rebel against what is expected of them. Their neighbourhood proximity highlights them on each others radar and naturally their attitude and competition for dominance subconsciously draws each others attention, progressing towards a possible romantic encounter.
The video is available exclusively through the Within app which is available for iOS, Android using Google Cardboard, or HTC Vive, Oculus Rift and Samsung Gear VR head-mounted displays (HMDs).
