There’s now less than a month to go until the launch of Sony Interactive Entertainment’s (SIE’s) PlayStation VR head-mounted display (HMD). One videogame that’s been confirmed for day one release is Rebellion’s Battlezone. And today the studio has shared even more news about the tank combat title by revealing a four player co-op will be available.
On launch day PlayStation VR owners will be able to engage in single-player, or 2 – 4 player co-op online through Battlezone’s procedurally generated campaign. With the announcement also comes a new trailer, showcasing new gameplay footage, the hundreds of possible tank upgrades and loadouts that’ll be available, a challenging permadeath structure and the strategic decision-making needed between battles.
There are nine different tank chassis available, each with its own strengths and weaknesses to suit different gameplay styles. Each loadout has its own choice of weaponry, from devastating cannons and machineguns to laser-guided missiles and artillery. General upgrades include: Multi lockon; Shields – Front, Rear, Sides; Active Reload; Heal and more. Then there’s the special upgrades such as Shield Boost; Vampire; Rot; Virus and EMP, which can all be further improved upon.
Players can choice the route they take through the campaign map, a longer journey means more upgrades but also tougher enemies at the end. And the longer it takes to reach the end the more likely it’ll be that the Nemesis Tank will appear. This newly revealed enemy is a massively upgraded tank that’s not only formidable itself, but it also offers speed boosts and improved reload times to all enemies nearby.
As recently reported by VRFocus, Battlezone will be one of the videogames available on the demo disc included with every purchase of PlayStation VR.
Battlezone is available to pre-order now, and if any further announcements are made in the run up to launch VRFocus will let you know.
