Epic Games’ recent VR Template addition to Unreal Engine 4 has struck a chord with many readers of VRFocus, and as such you’ll be pleased to hear that the engine team will be digging in hard on this entry-level technology. Designed to make the jump to virtual reality (VR) development even easier, the VR Template will be demonstrated live and covered by a Q&A session in the Unreal Engine 4 livestream tomorrow.
The VR Template, made entirely in Unreal Engine 4 Blueprints, is intended for first-time VR developers. It offers entry level design principles and guidelines for getting started with VR in Unreal Engine 4 and includes support for the Oculus Rift, HTC Vive and PlayStation VR as standard. The VR Template includes two maps and offers different opportunities for locomotion, dependent on player input device. Furthermore, once the basic VR Template tutorial has been completed the developer can export their work to begin designing their own unique project.
Tom Looman, Senior Learning Resource Engineer, and Alexander Paschall, Community Manager, will present the VR Template in tomorrow’s livestream over at the Unreal Engine Twitch channel. The livestream will commence at 7pm GMT, 29th September 2016, and VRFocus will keep you updated with all the latest details on the VR Template component of Unreal Engine 4.
