Viveport is a global app store for virtual reality (VR) experiences, and aims to democratise the VR ecosystem by letting developers reach wide ranges of audiences, revealed by HTC this summer. It has now come that Viveport has opened up its beta version of its platform up for developers, and along with that it has also been announced that there will be the Viveport Developer Awards (VDAs).
Titles that are published onto Viveport from today, now that the developer beta version is open, may be eligible for consideration, and five nominees will be selected per category, based on customer engagement and VR experience.
“The Viveport developer community is driving innovation by creating inspiring experiences; enriching customer’s everyday lives in virtual reality. The VDAs are an important way in empowering developers to define the future of VR,” said Rikard Steiber, SVP of Viveport.
Now that the beta version is open, developers can get the first look at the new features so that they know how their pieces will be showcased, give direct feedback, get regular announcements of news features and promotions, and they will also have the opportunity to have Chinese customers try out their apps as it has been open to China since April.
“I am thrilled to see how Viveport is passionate about creating success for developers,” said Gil Baron, CEO and Co-Founder, Visionary VR. “The Viveport Developer Awards is an excellent opportunity for developers like us to feel appreciated, and benefit from the global marketing and promotion.”
“The Viveport Community already includes over 7,000 registered developers and we cannot wait to showcase and celebrate their creations through the Viveport Developer Awards,” added Steiber.
Those who enter the VDAs has a chance to win something from the pool of $500,000 (USD) in cash and prizes, which will be awarded early next year. New developers can sign up for the Beta online now.
