In the world of gaming there are very few who do not know of Hideo Kojima, and is most recognisably linked with the Metal Gear series of videogames as he created it. Now, it has come that he will be bringing his expertise in gaming over to virtual reality (VR) as part of the advisory board at Prologue Immersive.
Prologue Immersive specialises in both VR and augmented reality (AR), and judging from its showreel it doesn’t shy away from creativity and downright strangeness. Kojima’s joining with the studio as a figure for its advisory board came as not only an interest, as Kojima is said to have commented that “Virtual Reality could change not only games but people’s lives and how people interact with entertainment, education and more”, but it has also come from a friendship with the co-founder of the studio.
Kyle Cooper, partner of the Co-founder of Prologue Immersive, Kimberly Cooper, his an Emmy Award winning designer and director of films and television sequences, and (more importantly) he has worked on several Metal Gear sequences and created the intros for Metal Gear Solid 2 and Metal Gear Solid 3. As a result, Hideo has said that he has “been close friends with Kyle Cooper for over 17 years now”.
“I’m very excited to hear that masters of the visual arts such as Kyle Cooper and his team are taking on yet another challenge in this digital interactive media that is VR. Through VR, I am certain they will strive to connect films and video games and take us on to that bridge to the future that lies ahead. It would be my absolute pleasure to assist the Coopers on this new adventure they are embarking on,” said Kojima after visiting the studio in March of this year.
“We can expect a whole new world of entertainment. 2016 will surely be remembered as Year One for VR.”
Kimberly Cooper has also earned two Emmy nominations and has been working in VR for over two and a half years, founding Prologue Immersive in 2015.
