It is no secret that virtual reality (VR) is a great partner with sporting games, and even more so with sporting games that takes the activity to an unrealistic level that we could never achieve in real life. Galaxy Golf takes the traditional sport and describes itself as a “planetary physics puzzler”.
Although it is available for most of the major VR platforms – Oculus Rift, HTC Vive, Gear VR and Cardboard – there seems to be different gameplay to be had for each one, which is to be expected. It is said that for the HTC Vive, you can use the motion controllers to spin planets, grab balls, and aim the ball for the shot. For the Gear VR and Oculus Rift, players can instead use their gaze to aim. With a Cardboard head-mounted display (HMD), it is said that it offers the most accessible experience with a free demonstration of Galaxy Golf’s core gameplay.
“Liftoff Labs was established to explore development in virtual reality, and we are thrilled to join this new field with our first VR release. Galaxy Golf is an innovation on familiar concepts which is immersive and fun no matter what device it’s played on. It has already been a thrilling adventure and I can’t wait for players to experience what we have built!” said Mars Jokela, Director of Liftoff Labs in a press release.
Below is a video featuring the makers of Galaxy Golf, who explain that the main idea was the ability to explore different worlds, amongst other insights.
