Rick and Morty has already broken into the virtual reality (VR) landscape, but this doesn’t seem to be enough for the Co-creator of the series as he has partnered up with a former Executive Producer from Epic Games to create an exclusively VR videogame studio: Squanchtendo.
Is it really a surprise at all that someone who has had a massive hand in Rick and Morty has come out with news in this way? As Splzooshly, the mascot for Squanchtendo, explains below, Justin Roiland, Co-creator of Rick and Morty and voice actor for both Rick and Morty, has decided to join together with Tanya Watson, “game veteran” who has worked on Gears of War, Bullet Storm, and Fortnite.
Judging by Splzooshly only playing on the HTC Vive in the press release/comic, it can be safely assumed that the HTC Vive will be a big concentration for the VR duo. What can also be safely assumed is that there will be a mixture of crazy comedy, like much of what has already been expressed by Roiland, and AAA title quality from the likes of Watson. It is said that Squanchtendo will be “combining edgy, mature comedy with refined, high-end gameplay mechanics and stories.”
As the studio is still fresh and new, it is open for talent to come on board and take advantage of either investment or job opportunities – if you are cool enough to get on the same level as these two.
VRFocus will keep up with the developments that come from this new and quirky VR videogame studio, and for all other news, updates, and features from the world of VR, make sure to check back.
