Surf’s up, dudes. Time to catch some waves in virtual reality (VR) (okay, you get the idea) now that Digital Domain has teamed up with the World Surf League (WSL) to create 360 videos of one of the top surfing competitions in the world – in a luxury location, too.
All of this footage will be taken during the Billabong Pro Tahiti where viewers can hear from the world’s best surfers throughout the elite level competition – this will include first-person footage, 360 degree close-ups, and exclusive Q&As with the pro surfers.
“Digital Domain is proud to team up with the World Surf League to bring these athletic feats to life through stunning 360° footage,” said Daniel Seah, Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer of the company.
“Together we are enabling surfing fans and VR enthusiasts alike to experience the thrills of a Tahitian beach, watching the best surfers in the world go head-to-head, while also showcasing the possibilities for virtual reality in this challenging extreme sport.”
“We’re excited to leverage the power of virtual reality to bring to life unique experiences, like surfing in Tahiti,” said Tim Greenberg, SVP of Digital or the World Surf League. “We can now transport viewers into the center of the action, and with innovative cameras and advanced 360° filming techniques, Digital Domain can perfectly capture the beauty and drama of the sport.”
The videos will be available on the official WSL Facebook page where they will use Facebook 360.
