Usually what is done with films using virtual reality (VR), the VR experience is released and showcased before the film comes out to promote it. However, Daylight’s End has decided to ignore what other films have done and is releasing everything on the same day as its cinematic release, and is the first title to do that.
As well as releasing in cinemas tomorrow, Daylight’s End will also be available for video on demand (VOD) and – more importantly – as a VR experience that will be released on Steam. What can be expected of this VR experience is being able to unlock weapons that actors Johnny Strong and Lance Henriksen both use in the title.
In an interview below with Director Dale Carman, he explains that the trailer has been shot with the Jaunt One camera to be viewed in VR, then showing the Samsung Gear VR. It isn’t 100% clear whether or not it will also be available on all the other platforms that Jaunt covers (Oculus Rift, HTC Vive, Cardboard, and Desktop 360) but
Carman doesn’t give a great amount of detail away, but comments on the VR experience: “People are going to love to see an action film like this in virtual reality, and being able to see this little teaser is going to give the taste of storytelling in the future.”
The weapons that you can have a go at handling are: a Colt M1911A1, Double Barreled Shotgun with Exposed Hammers, Rossi Overland Short Barreled Shotgun – 12 Gauge, M14 – SOCOM 16, a custom engraved nickel plated Colt MKIV Series 80 with pearl grips, Savage/Stevens 311A Sawed Off Shotgun, M4A1, Glock 17, Kel-Tec KSG, AK-104, MPi-KM-72, and a M-16.
