Bit Planet Games Developing First VR title Ultrawings for Oculus Rift
Ultrawings should be arriving by the end of the year.
Indie developer Bit Planet Games has announced its first virtual reality (VR) videogame, an open-world, aerial-themed title called Ultrawings.
Being built for the Oculus Rift head-mounted display (HMD), Ultrawings will give players control of several light aircraft with which to complete various challenges across its virtual world.
On Bit Planet Games’ blog Christopher Stockman, Founder and Studio Director revealed the origins of Ultrawings: “The original idea behind the game came some 25 years ago when I had a dream that I was flying an Ultralight over an ocean (no idea which one!). I can vividly remember the wind and mist hitting my face as I came in for a landing on top of an aircraft carrier. The dream was so real that I was actually disappointed when I woke up and quickly realized I was in my bed! Fast forward to almost a year ago and this dream popped up when we were thinking about ideas for VR games. And now here we are today a very unique flying game that is unlike anything you’ve played before.”
So far the studio has released one teaser trailer for the upcoming title which is slated to be released in Q4 2016 for Oculus Rift. More details will be revealed over the coming months, with the first likely to be this week as Ultrawings will be on demonstration at the Virtual reality Los Angeles (VRLA) Summer Expo at the end of this week
