The new edition of Dead or Alive Xtreme 3 set to arrive alongside the PlayStation VR may not be making its way to western territories, but that hasn’t stopped VRFocus digging up some new gameplay details. Set to be known as Dead or Alive Xtreme 3: Fortune, the PlayStation VR compatibility update for Dead or Alive Xtreme 3 will be available to all players on PlayStation VR launch day.
The latest demonstration version of Dead or Alive Xtreme 3: Fortune featured a detailed character model of popular Dead or Alive 5 Ultimate newcomers Marie-Rose. The sequence begins as Marie-Rose approaches the player, reacting in real-time to head movements and button input, played with the DualShock 4 controller. Despite the clean doll-like appearance of the Dead or Alive female cast, the reactions are remarkably realistic, instantly interpretable as human feelings towards the player’s actions.
The aim of Dead or Alive Xtreme 3: Fortune, according to Koei Tecmo, is to evoke the feeling of ‘being there with the girls’. As creepy as that may sound, Dead or Alive Xtreme 3: Fortune is not the only videogame in development for PlayStation VR to offer such an experience. Katsuhiro Harada’s Summer Lesson set its sights on such a goal very soon after the reveal of the PlayStation VR, but does so in a story-driven content. Dead or Alive Xtreme 3: Fortune’s setting is more closely in resemblance of a beach holiday.
Dead or Alive Xtreme 3: Fortune will add a brand new gameplay mode to Dead or Alive Xtreme 3. Once the update has been installed a new option will be added to the main menu, ‘Event Paradise’. Here, players can become a photographer taking pictures of the Dead or Alive Xtreme 3: Fortune cast from various distances and angles using the controller for relocation and the PlayStation VR’s headlook to adjust angles. The result of a successful photo shoot will deliver special rewards to the player, including in-game letters from the girls.
Much of this may sound odd to a western audience, potentially the reason for Koei Tecmo’s decision not to release Dead or Alive Xtreme 3 in North America or Europe. However, the content is perfectly in-line with previous Dead or Alive Xtreme titles and as such the addition of Dead or Alive Xtreme 3: Fortune content is likely to be welcomed by the core audience.
Dead or Alive Xtreme 3: Fortune is set to arrive alongside the launch of the PlayStation VR in Japan, however no pricing details have yet been made available. VRFocus will of course keep you updated with all the latest details on Dead or Alive Xtreme 3: Fortune and other forthcoming virtual reality titles from Koei Tecmo.
