NVIDIA’s pursuit of high quality virtual reality (VR) shows no sign of slowing down, as the company has today confirmed that the recently revealed VR Funhouse will be made available to all later this month, for free. Set to be available via Steam, VR Funhouse is a showcase of a number of NVIDIA’s internal VR tools including the now well established NVIDIA VRWorks.
VR Funhouse is essentially a technical demonstration designed to showcase accurate physics modelling in VR. Developed using Unreal Engine 4, VR Funhouse incorporates many elements of the NVIDIA GameWorks SDK, including NVIDIA PhysX, NVIDIA Hairworks, NVIDIA Flow, NVDIA FleX and NVIDIA Destruction.
Having been revealed back in May of this year, VRFocus has already been hands-on with VR Funhouse, stating in a preview: “A mini-game compilation built to showcase NVIDIA’s work on making physics processing less computationally hungry (and thus more VR friendly) VR Funhouse may be a technical demonstration at present, but its ambitions stretch far beyond this.”
“NVIDIA VR Funhouse is a great way to show consumers and developers how VR experiences can be made even more immersive when special effects, haptics, physics and sound are added to the mix,” reads NVIDIA’s press statement. “The game was built for people of all ages and designed for everyone to enjoy, regardless of whether or not they have tried VR or are already an early adopter of the technology.”
VR Funhouse is set to launch later this month via Steam, and will be available for all to download for free. NVIDIA had previously stated that a toolkit would be made available for end users to create their own mini-games to add to VR Funhouse’s default set, however no further details are available on this currently.
