Dimensional Hits Steam Early Access

Ever since Brett Jackson from Head Start Design won last years VRTGO Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR) conference and expo competition for Dimensional, VRFocus has been keeping a close eye on its development. In the following months since the event and Kickstarter crowd-funding campaign was successfully launched and completed, followed by getting Greenlit on Steam. Now the videogame has arrived on Steam Early Access.

Dimensional is a first-person puzzle platformer that supports the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive head-mounted displays (HMDs). It puts players into the role of a rookie soldier tasked with saving an alien race from extinction. Navigating dangerous secret chambers, players must save the alien offspring from hunters looking to wipe them out.

Jackson has been doing quite a bit of experimenting, creating unique situations that are tailored to VR. For example, the developer notes: “slide along a narrow ledge as a giant pendulum swings inches from your face; test your courage by jumping off a high walkway. You’re told a trapdoor will instantly rise to save you from the spikes far below; Carefully move your head through a narrow gap filled with spikes; Knock blocks out of a wall without bringing the roof crashing down on your head.”

Dimensional retails for £3.99 GBP, and should be in early access for around four months. Once fully launched the title will expand on the number of levels – currently five with a bonus level in the credits – to broaden the experience. The price will also likely increase as additional content is added, although Jackson does comment: “I will also be looking for advice from the community,” in relation to his pricing strategy. He’ll also be looking for further community feedback to improve the project as it continues.

VRFocus will continue its coverage of Dimensional, reporting back with any further progress updates from the studio.
