Best Buy Stores Now Stocking Merge VR Headset
You can now pick up the headset while shopping at Best Buy.
Since Google launched its Cardboard head-mounted display (HMD) as a cheap way to experience virtual reality (VR) using a smartphone, there’s been a deluge of imitations as the design was freely posted online. One of the best known headsets is Merge VR, a bright purple coloured unit that launched in October 2015. Since then Merge VR has expanded its retail footprint both online and in retail locations. Today the company has announced the HMD can be purchased from Best Buy retail locations.
Over the past few weeks, the VR company announced its HMD rollout across several major retailers, including Best Buy Canada, GameStop and Target. Now with the addition of nearly 600 US Best Buy stores, the soft foam headset can be purchased from more than 1,400 retail stores worldwide.
The Merge VR headset is now available at Best Buy, Best Buy Canada, Target, GameStop, AAFES and GAME retail stores, and online from BestBuy.com, BestBuy.ca, GameStop.com, Amazon.com, B&H Photo (bhphotovideo.com), NewEgg.com, Kohls.com, ToysRUs.com, GAME.co.uk, and MergeVR.com.
“We are making virtual reality accessible to as many people as possible,” said Merge Co-founder Andrew Trickett. “Mobile VR allows people to experience a brand new reality. You really have to try it to understand how awesome and engaging this technology is. Best Buy is trusted for carrying the best products, and the Merge VR Goggles are the easiest way for customers to experience the world of VR.”
Merge has its own curated library of immersive content called VR Start. All content is given ratings for intensity level and user feedback so visitors can explore a wide range of VR games and experiences, including travel, meditation, 360° videos, music, fashion, and more.
VRFocus will continue its coverage of Merge VR, reporting back with any new updates.
