Epson’s Moverio AR Glasses on Demonstration at AWE 2016
Epson's BT-300 smart glasses will be showcased at the AR focused event.
The Augmented World Expo (AWE) 2016 opens its doors today in Santa Clara, California, and one company showcasing its future augmented reality (AR) plans is Epson. The company will be demonstrating its Moverio BT-300 smart glasses with a range of AR applications.
Companies showcasing their AR applications on the Moverio BT-300 include AR-Cadia, Navisens and Augumenta Ltd. AR-Cadia is a Silicon Valley-based, Israeli start-up whose technology allows mobile phone apps to be used on Epson AR head-mounted display (HMD). So whether its social apps or streaming video services users can view them on a transparent display. AR-Cadia’s tech also allows users to pin apps and web pages to targets in the real world.
While Navisens will be demoing its motionDNA technology, originally developed for firefighters, that locates personnel and mobile devices indoors and underground without WiFi, GPS or Bluetooth beacons.
Augumenta, Ltd., a Finnish company, will be showcasing its latest gesture control and virtual inputs on the Moverio smart glasses, enabling intuitive interaction with enterprise and consumer applications.
“These innovative applications will provide AWE attendees with a first glimpse of the power of the Moverio BT-300,” said Eric Mizufuka, product manager, New Ventures for Epson America. “I’m confident that the Moverio BT-300 represents the next display technology – the 4th screen – that will soon dominate the electronics industry.”
Epson first unveiled the Moverio BT-300 AR smart glasses back in February 2016, at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) event in Barcelona, Spain. The HMD features an OLED digital display, a quad core Intel Atom processor and utilises Android 5.1 to render 3D content with six hours of battery life. Also built-in is a 5 mega pixel front-facing HD camera.
