Play Star Wars Holo Chess in HoloGrid: Monster Battle

Back in March VRFocus reported on Academy Award winning Visual Effects Supervisor and Director Phil Tippett working on augmented reality (AR)/ virtual reality (VR) videogame HoloGrid: Monster Battle. Tippett designed the Holo Chess scene from the original Star Wars and today announced a Kickstarter crowd-funding campaign for the videogame based on that Star Wars idea, in conjunction with developer Happy Giant.

HoloGrid: Monster Battle is a hybrid Collectible Card Game (CCG) /turn-based tactical strategy game. Players will be able to play head-to-head, locally or online, as well as offline. A physical board will also be developed for non-digital gaming.

“For years I’ve been making monsters for Directors to play with, and now for the first time, I’m making monsters for YOU to play with,” said Tippett. “We’re excited about the new fields of Augmented and Virtual Reality, and to be working with our friends at HappyGiant to create HoloGrid: Monster Battle.”

“We’re excited to be launching this Kickstarter with Phil Tippett and his studio, and bringing to life a game so many of us have always wanted to play,” said Mike Levine, President of Happy Giant. “This is our first step into a new world of AR gaming, and while we are launching it on mobile initially so everyone can play it, out long term vision is to bring it to emerging AR and VR platforms.”

The Kickstarter campaign is looking to raise $100,000 USD in the next 34 days, with the current total at $10,375 already. Funding tiers start from $10 USD going up to $5,000. Access to the videogame starts at $25.

VRFocus will bring you further updates on the campaigns progress over the coming weeks.
