MSI Showcasing VR Backpack PC at Computex 2016

More virtual reality (VR) news has surfaced for the upcoming Computex 2016 event in Taipei, Taiwan later this month. VRFocus reported earlier today that technology company ZOTAC would be showcasing its most powerful mini-PC, the MAGNUS EN980, designed for VR gaming. Also unveiling its latest VR tech is MSI, with its VR-optimised gaming laptops and a mobile backpack PC.

One of the biggest hindrances to head-mounted displays (HMDs) like Oculus Rift and HTC Vive is the fact that users are tethered to their PC’s, which restricts mobility and causes cable issues. Ideally the headsets would be wireless, but current technology doesn’t allow the data to be transferred fast enough so that latency isn’t an issue. Experiences like The Void get round this by using a backpack mounted PC, and MSI will have its own version at Computex 2016. Full spec details haven’t yet been released but the MSI device does feature an Intel Core i7 processor and NVIDIA GeForce GTX980 graphics card.

On the laptop front which MSI is well known for the company will be showcasing the MSI GT83 Titan SLI and GT73 Titan SLI. The GT83 Titan SLI has a Cherry MX mechanical keyboard with multi-colour backlighting by SteelSeries, NVIDIA GeForce GTX980 SLI graphics and MSI Matrix Display technology supporting Surround View Mode, 4K output and up to 3 external displays. The lighter MSI GT73 Titan SLI supports dual NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980M SLI graphics, and again features 4K settings under 3-monitor Surround View Mode.

“MSI goes above and beyond to present unprecedented gaming innovations. We are proud to present COMPUTEX TAIPEI visitors with iconic, futuristic gaming rigs that can potentially change the way they game and work,” said Eric Kuo, MSI Vice President of Global Sales & Marketing.

Computex 2016 will be taking place between 31st May – 4th June at the Nangang Exhibition Center. As MSI releases further details on its VR PC keep reading VRFocus for the latest news.
