FOVE the head-mounted display (HMD) that features eye-tracking technology originally began as a Kickstarter crowd-funding campaign back in May 2015. The company has released a steady stream for updates and has now revealed details of an early version of its software development kit (SDK).
Stated on the company’s funding page: “We’re releasing a (very early) version of the SDK this month which is a C++ interface to allow integration with custom rendering engines or native applications. This v0.4.0 release contains a lot of reliability and stability fixes from the previous private releases which is good news for our existing external content providers. Also included are some quality improvements like fixing up distortion meshes and shaders, exposing view matrices for each eye, and so forth.”
The team has also noted about developers need for plugins for middleware videogame development engines Unity and Unreal saying: “What we’re sure you’re all waiting for is the Unity and Unreal plugins which we are working on already and early versions of those should be available with our next release.”
The release of version 0.5.0 has been delayed until some point in May, which will also include support for new hardware being developed.
The FOVE development kit should be shipping this Fall, and VRFocus will keep you updated with the latest announcements.
