Experiments with Music and VR Create Surge

Musicians and virtual reality (VR) content creators have been mixing the two mediums together for sometime now. Bands such as Fever The Ghost, The Donnies The Amys, Mind Enterprises, Pop Evil and Duende Musica have all created 360-degree music videos, while videogames like Audioshield combine immersive gameplay and music together. Now available through Steam is a free music video called Surge, showcasing what the future for the format could turn into.

Created by 3D animator and musician Arjan van Meerten and produced by House of Secrets, Surge is described as a: “real-time VR music video created for the new generation VR headsets and gives an amazing insight in the possibilities of VR as a medium for music videos. The seamless fusion between music and visual effects come to life in an overwhelming experience which is truly out of this world.”

The short video is available to download for both the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive head-mounted displays (HMDs), supporting both a seated and standing experience.

VRFocus will continue its coverage of the latest VR releases on Steam, as content becomes available.
