Cogswell College To Launch VR And AR Certificate Program

The growth virtual reality (VR) industry has seen numerous companies and developers jump on board this emerging technology, but most are still learning what can and can’t be done. This is especially so for content creators, whether they’re film makers or videogame studios. To help accelerate content development San Jose, California-based Cogswell College has announced plans to launch a VR/augmented reality (AR) Certificate Program, with the first courses starting this summer.

The college will be offering classes with four areas: Perceptual/Cognitive Aspects of VR/AR; HCI Design; Design for VR; and Project-Based Iterative Application.

And as part of the program which is aimed at practicing industry professionals, Cogswell College has assembled an Industry Advisory Board comprising of: Fabien Bourdon, P.E., Sr. Architect, Citrix Systems; Richard Chuang, CEO and Founder of CloudPic; Jeremy Kenisky, Director of 3D/Interactive, Geomedia, Inc.; Curt Miyashiro, Production Technology Supervisor, Jaunt VR; and Stephanie Riggs, CEO/Founder, Azimyth Creation Studio.

“We look forward to helping the industry make sense of the exciting recent developments in virtual reality”, says Jerome Solomon, Cogswell’s Dean of the College & Director of Game Design and Development, as well as the Conference Chair for ACM SIGGRAPH 2017. “We recognize the pain of developing around emerging VR/AR systems while at the same time the gaming industry has always led the way in finding applications for new technologies”.

The Cogswell VR/AR program is comprised of a six-course set of specialized classes that will be offered weekday evenings and weekends to accommodate the schedules of industry professionals. Further details can be found here.

As more VR/AR courses are implemented VRFocus will report back with details.
