With the launch of the HTC Vive virtual reality (VR) head-mounted display this month came a slew of new VR videogames launching onto Valve’s Steam platform. There are well over 150 projects you can already download and test out on the SteamVR device, many of which are exclusive to VR HMDs. This has caused some confusion for some, as people without the HTC Vive or the Oculus Rift have picked up titles and found themselves unable to play them. Valve has now taken some steps to help avoid this situation, however.
VR exclusive games now feature a bright orange notice section on their Steam listings with a message that reads: “Requires a virtual reality headset. See the VR support section for more.” As seen in the image above, the message is located just about the Add to Cart option, making it hard to miss. For other info about a title’s VR support, the VR section is still listed on the right side of the page with details about which HMDs are supported, what kind of play area you’ll need and which type of inputs are used.
Over on the Oculus Rift side, the Oculus Home store only sells VR compatible content, so it’s hard to make the mistake there.
