One of the biggest titles helping to launch the Oculus Rift virtual reality (VR) head-mounted display (HMD) last week was EVE: Valkyrie, a long-anticipated multiplayer space combat experience from CCP Games. Though co-published by Oculus VR itself on PC, the title is also set to arrive on PlayStation 4 with support for the PlayStation VR HMD later down the line. Also long-requested is an HTC Vive version of the title, though CCP Games has been tight lipped on such a port. That changes today as the company has confirmed that EVE: Valkyrie is indeed bound for the new HMD.
The official Twitter account for EVE: Valkyrie confirmed the news, noting: “Congratulations to HTC & Valve on launch! We’re excited to confirm #EVEValkyrie is coming to #Vive in 2016.” The above image was also attached. As the message alludes to, the HTC Vive is launching today, arriving at the doorsteps of early pre-order customers. EVE: Valkyrie won’t be one of around 50 launch titles for the kit, then, but you can expect to see it hit the device in the near future.
While it’s surprising to see one of the Oculus Rift’s biggest titles confirmed for its biggest rival, it is perhaps to be expected given that CCP Games’ other VR release, Gunjack, is also HTC Vive-bound having already hit the Gear VR and Oculus Rift. Other details about the new version of EVE: Valkyrie are scarce; will Oculus Rift players get to fight HTC Vive owners? Will it make use of Room-Scale tracking in any way? Hopefully fans will have their answers soon.
