It’s been over a month since Microsoft’s Share Your Idea competition for the HoloLens mixed reality (MR) head-mounted display (HMD) closed. The team tasked with bringing to life the winning entry, Galaxy Explorer, has been busy detailing their progress with project updates, including the release of episodic videos. They’ve now recently unveiled the second video, title Let’s Do This.
Episode two shows the development team completing the prototyping phase of Galaxy Explorer, tackling problems and working out the best ideas to take further in the limited time they have available. The video begins with Steve Hoogendyk, an animator on the project illustrating a problem that had just arisen with the scaling not working correctly. The episode then moves to senior program manager Jessica Zahn who introduced the previous video, she discusses what the prototyping stage involves, saying: “We just start throwing some content, throwing some code together and figuring out what works and what feels right.”
The team are planning to have Galaxy Explorer ready to show at the Microsoft Build Developer Conference, which takes place from 30th March – 1st, April 2016, so new updates for the project should be fairly regular.
VRFocus will continue to follow the Galaxy Explorer team, reporting back with new episodes and updates on the development.
