Last week on Tuesday, 15th March at the Game Developers Conference (GDC) 2016, Sony Computer Entertainment (SCE) made the big announcement virtual reality (VR) fans had been waiting for, the price and release date for the PlayStation VR head-mounted display (HMD) for PlayStation 4. The price came in at £349 GBP / $399 USD, while October is the scheduled month but no day has yet been confirmed. Pre-orders soon went live on several sites in the UK including Game, and now the company has revealed details of pre-ordering in-store.
Via a Twitter posting from Game’s Rugby branch, the tweet said: “Reserve your #PlayStationVR with a £100 deposit and avoid disappointment as there is very limited stock for launch.” So for customers keen to get their hands on a headset at launch, but don’t currently have the funds to afford the full price, a £100 deposit is all you’ll need.
The £349 kit includes the PlayStation VR headset, Processor unit, Stereo earbuds, HDMI cable, USB cable, AC adaptor and power cord and PlayStation VR headset connection adaptor. It doesn’t include the PlayStation Camera or the PlayStation Move controllers, these will have to bought separately for the full immersive experience. The retailer does list another bundle including just the PlayStation Camera for £389.98.
In the US a bundle went on pre-order sale for $499 USD which included the headset, camera and controllers, quickly selling out on Amazon while other retailers did have some allocations left.
VRFocus will continue its coverage of PlayStation VR, reporting back any new updates.
