AMD Partners with Crytek to Power VR First

The 2016 Game Developers Conference (GDC) and the first ever Virtual Reality Developers Conference (VRDC) are now underway in San Francisco, with many tech teams using the event as a platform for making big VR announcements. One company to have done just that is AMD, who held a press conference today and invited VRFocus along to share their news.

AMD has announced that it will join forces with Crytek to be the exclusive GPU technology partner for Crytek’s VR First Initiative, which aims to equip a new generation of talent with the tools needed to explore the power and potential of VR. The platform that will be used to implement this initiative is AMD’s Radeon Pro Duo, the world’s first VR content creator platform. It will allow users to create high-end VR content for a wide range of applications such as education, medicine, gaming and entertainment.

With many game engine developers now making the switch to Directx 12, it will come as no surprise that AMD has incorporated features into Radeon that will facilitate the transition, including the Asnychronous Compute Engine (ACE), which improves GPU utilization, input latency, efficiency and performance.

AMD also revealed that it will soon be launching its Radeon VR-Ready Premium badge programme, which it hopes will help make VR more accessible to consumers by making it easier to choose a VR-ready system.

VRFocus will continue to follow the progress AMD makes in the VR market as the year develops.
