As promised, HTC has revealed launch details for its long-anticipated virtual reality (VR) head-mounted display (HMD), the HTC Vive, ahead of the launch of pre-orders for the kit at 10:00 EST on 29th February 2016. The kit will cost some $799 USD and will begin shipping on 1st April 2016. Aesthetically, there are few differences between the device and second generation development kit, the Vive Pre. That said, you can still get a better look at this consumer version now with the launch of an official trailer, seen below.
The brief clip offers an up close look at the HTC Vive, though doesn’t dive into content that’s on its way to the kit. Still, it does showcase some of the adjustable features of the device, such as the ability to move the display’s distance from the user’s eyes. It also ends in a very similar fashion to some of the sizzle trailers for Oculus VR’s Oculus Rift PC-based HMD, bringing the camera into the kit’s lenses to simulate someone actually putting it on and stepping into VR for themselves.
