The NBA, NFL, PGA Tour among others have all recently had the virtual reality treatment thanks to production companies like NextVR and Jaunt. Now the latter has collaborated with the National Hockey League (NHL) and Canadian broadcasting company Rogers to bring ice hockey fans two new pieces of immersive content.
Available through the Jaunt VR app on iOS and Android using a Google Cardboard or similar head-mounted display (HMD), and Samsung’s Gear VR headset, are the 2016 Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic or 2016 Honda NHL All-Star Game.
The 2016 Honda NHL All-Star Game is a compilation piece, where fans will be able to view the Honda NHL Skills Competition directly from the ice, have a seat next to the glass for the All-Star Game, as well as viewing other areas like inside the locker room and standing with the press on Media day.
Then there’s the 2016 Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic, where fans will be immersed in the Gillette Stadium, with front row seats to watch the game and see the procession of players onto the ice.
This has all been recorded on the Jaunt One 360-degree camera, and Rogers will be giving fans more chances to experience the NHL in VR by taking the experience to various events at select Rogers Stores and NHL Arenas nationally.
