UPDATED: Kôna: Day One Beta Hits GOG

Backers of indie developer Parabole’s Kickstarter crowd-funding campaign for the virtual reality (VR) compatible adventure videogame, Kôna, have been waiting a long time to finally get their hands on the title. The first entry in this episodic series was initially planned to release last year, but delays with receiving some funding and more meant that the release has slipped back into 2016. The full launch is still to come but, this week, Parabole has released a beta version for the first episode, titled Kôna: Day One.

The early release is available to all, but some will have pre-ordered the first episode either through Kickstarter itself or a more recent campaign. In it, players are cast as a private detective named Carl Faubert. Faubert is hired to look into vandalism to a rich industrialist’s summer home in Quebec, Canada, of which the local community is suspected to have had a hand in. Upon arriving at the scene, however, Faubert finds the entire area deserted, with cars left on the sides of roads and doors to houses left open. It’s up to the player to investigate exactly what has transpired here.

The experience is available now on GOG at a discounted price and will launch later today on Steam.

Kôna: Day One is planned to be the first of four episodes, with the other entries coming after every few months. During the Kickstarter campaign Parabole committed to supporting the Oculus Rift head-mounted display (HMD) with the project, though it’s unclear if this support will be included in either the beta or full releases from the start. A final date for that full release is also yet to be announced. The title is also planned to release on PlayStation 4 with support for the PlayStation VR HMD.

Update: Parabole has been in touch with VRFocus to note that the Steam release will not take place today. This was a mistake on VRFocus‘ part. Apologies for any inconvenience.
