Watch Epic’s Entire Unreal Editor VR Announcement

Unreal Engine 4 creator Epic Games had a massive announcement to share with the virtual reality (VR) community yesterday. The company revealed a full VR version of its Unreal Editor, allowing developers to create VR videogames from within a head-mounted display (HMD) such as the Oculus Rift or the HTC Vive. The news was revealed during a livestream from the company’s headquarters. That livestream can now be seen below.

The announcement saw Senior Community Manager Chance Ivey, Technical Director Mike Fricker, and Founder and CEO Tim Sweeney gather to talk about the concept. Lasting just under 40 minutes, the team provides a look at the new system and discusses the benefits it will bring to VR. Fricker himself designed the concept and began to prototype it all the way back in the early days of the Oculus Rift. Accompanying the video was a new blog post with more information.

More details about the editor, including when developers will be able to get their hands on it, will be announced during the 2016 Game Developers Conference (GDC) on 16th March 2016.
