There are some titles that VRFocus has been reporting on since it began just under two years ago now. One of these is Technolust, a virtual reality (VR) adventure from indie developer Iris VR that passed a Kickstarter crowd-funding campaign all the way back in 2014. Since that time Iris VR has become hugely involved with the VR community, releasing new projects such as Kerser and revealing spin-offs like Technolust: Scanlines. This week, however, the team is turning its attention back to that original title, and has confirmed it will be available at the launch of the Oculus Rift head-mounted display (HMD) in the very near future.
Iris VR confirmed as much in a recent Kickstarter update. “Technolust will be there, day 0 as a launch title,” the developer noted. “As a backer, you will receive a key to download your copy for Oculus Home when it becomes available.” Oculus Rift pre-orders will be going live at 08:00 PST/16:00 GMT today, with the first shipments taking place in the first three months of this year. So far this seems to be one of three titles officially confirmed for the Oculus Rift launch, the others being CCP Games’ EVE: Valkyrie, which anyone who pre-orders will get for free, and Lucky’s Tale, which will be bundled in with the HMD.
Technolust is a first-person sci-fi experience set in a neo urban environment. The world is now largely controlled by corporations and, if they wish, players can choose to join a resistance and fight back against their reign. The title also offers players the chance to simply live out life within this futuristic land, going to arcades to play mini-games in virtual cabinets and more. Its first spin-off, Technolust: Scanlines, is due on PlayStation VR and HTC Vive, and is a sort of take on Papers, Please set within this universe.
