Sony’s 2016 PS4 DevCon Will Focus on PlayStation VR

PlayStation VR, the virtual reality (VR) head-mounted display (HMD) for PlayStation 4 from Sony Computer Entertainment (SCE), has taken a backseat at this 2016 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, Nevada this week. In its place the Oculus Rift has launched pre-orders and the HTC Vive has revealed its second development kit, the Vive Pre. However, it looks like the kit will be a big focus at SCE’s upcoming developer conference for its popular console – which has now sold over 36.9 million units – in PS4 DevCon.

IGN is reporting that SCE is ‘building up an agenda that will focus on PlayStation VR’ at the event which takes place at the Loews Hotel in Hollywood, California from 10th – 11th May 2016. VR fans will know this to be the venue that Oculus VR uses for its developer conference, Oculus Connect, later on in the year. The company will plan to provide ‘essential information’ for those looking to work on the device.

PlayStation VR is set to release in the first half of this year, though a specific price and launch date are yet to be revealed. It’s quite possible, then, that the device could even be commercially available by the time PS4 DevCon rolls around.
