Samsung’s Project Beyond VR Camera Returns at CES

All the way back in November 2014 Samsung introduced a brand new 360 degree camera known as Project Beyond. The device, consisting of multiple cameras, was set to be compatible with the Gear VR mobile-based virtual reality (VR) head-mounted display (HMD). But, despite an impressive showcase, Project Beyond has since gone in to hiding, while Gear VR itself has made leaps and bounds, releasing its first consumer edition in late 2015. With that model now launched, Project Beyond is making its return this week.

Samsung has confirmed that the camera will be on display at the 2016 Consumer Electronics Device (CES) in Las Vegas, Nevada this week. Project Beyond is capable of filming in stereoscopic 3D. It features 16 full HD sensors and is said to offer a ‘lag free’ experience when viewing content through a Gear VR. Release details for the kit haven’t been revealed just yet.
