Oculus Rift to be Available at Selected Retailers In April
Today saw the pre-order chaos start for the Oculus Rift head-mounted display (HMD). Oculus VR is the first of the major headset manufacturers to announce a price for the unit at $599 USD. And with the launch the company has been experiencing some problems with the amount of traffic as keen virtual reality (VR) fans seek to grab a pre-order which will include a copy of CCP Games’ EVE: Valkyrie. For those unable to place their order, Oculus VR has also announced that the HMD will be coming to selected retailers.
On the Oculus VR blog posted today the company has stated: “Rift will also be available in limited locations at select retailers starting in April.” Now this will possibly mean the US, but it isn’t entirely clear. Consumers will likely see them at larger superstores, and with VR being an experience people need to try first there might be the chance of demo stations.
Included in the Oculus Rift box will be the headset, with built-in headphones and mic, the camera sensor and an Xbox One controller. The HMD will also be bundled with Playful Games’ VR platformer Lucky’s Tale.
