Oculus: More Than 100 Titles Coming to Rift This Year

With the Oculus Rift now available to pre-order for $599 USD, it’s time to start thinking about what software will be coming to the virtual reality (VR) head-mounted display (HMD) this year to justify that price tag. The kit is of course capable of much more than videogames, but this is undeniably the focus for its first year. Between the over 20 titles being prepared by Oculus Studios and work from other developers there are over 100 VR videogames on the way to the Oculus Rift this year alone.

That number was confirmed to VRFocus by Oculus VR itself. That list will include the huge numbers of indie developers that are currently working on content for the device along with large studios such as Harmonix and Crytek, which have reached deals with Oculus VR to produce exclusive content for the Oculus Rift. With plenty more events lined up for the year following this week’s Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, Nevada, you can be sure that the company will be ready to make plenty of new announcements.

Many of these titles will be played using Microsoft’s Xbox One controller, which will come bundled in with every Oculus Rift sold along with a wireless adapter for the PC its running one. In the second half of the year, Oculus VR will also launch Oculus Touch, a position-tracked controller that will allow users to realistically pick up and interact with virtual items, environments and people. It’s not yet clear how much Oculus Touch will cost.

VRFocus will continue to deliver the latest updates on the Oculus Rift.
