After last year’s success, Samsung and Robert Kirkman’s entertainment company, Skybound, are set to unveil three more episodes for their 360 degree thriller video series, GONE. The exploratory VR series debuted on Samsung’s own video streaming app, Milk VR, available for Samsung Gear VR mobile-based virtual reality (VR) head-mounted display (HMD).
The original series, produced by Skybound’s David Alpert, Executive Producer of AMC’s The Walking Dead, gained lots of popularity as it rose to be the most viewed piece of Samsung’s Milk VR last month after the premiere episode ‘Pilgrim’ was released. Created by author, writer, and director JT Petty, GONE tells the story of Meredith and Charles Clover’s nine-year-old daughter’s disappearance. Emilia vanishes after her mother looks away for a moment, and it is up to the viewer to explore and get clues from the scenes in each episode.
Those attending the Sundance Film Festival will be able to try out the new cluster of episodes at the Samsung Studio, starting 22nd January. Marc Mathieu, Chief marketing officer at Samsung Electronics America, said in a press release: “We are excited to engage with the creative community at the 2016 Sundance Film Festival to collaborate and amplify viewpoints, content and new technological advancements as we continue to cultivate development in the VR community.”
Marc Mathieu went on to say that “At Samsung, we are making VR more accessible by partnering with the best in the industry to deliver a growing library of engaging, rich content”.
Skybound posted a new Behind the Scenes video in addition to this announcement, where you can get an idea of the challenges faced when creating VR productions like GONE.
VRFocus will continue to follow announcements for GONE and all other content for Gear VR, reporting on the latest updates.
