Unity 5.3.1 Now Available

Competition in the videogame engine industry is certainly heating up of late. Epic Games’ Unreal Engine 4 is making huge strides in the frequency of updates and hotfixes deployed to developers through the Epic Games Launcher, and now Unity Technologies are looking to follow suit. Despite Unity 5.3 only having been made available last week, the first update is already available.

Unity 5.3.1 brings a whole host of improvements and fixes for a number of different platforms, however the most relevant for virtual reality (VR) developers include added support for VR Application Focus (wherein all VR Players are now forced to Run in the background), and an optimisation of the Oculus SDK compatibility in which the CPU will now begin work on the next frame while rendering the current frame.

Additional fixes include an issue where Oculus was starting while building the standalone player while Virtual Reality Supported is true (#748988) and where showDeviceView was not caching between runs in the Editor, which now forces to true on play (#750510).

This latest update for Unity 5 can be downloaded via the official Unity 3D website. VRFocus will keep you updated with all the latest engine updates applicable to VR developers.
