Harmonix Music VR is Exclusive to PlayStation VR Dev Confirms

Yesterday VRFocus reported on an interesting posting on Reddit that seemed to indicate Harmonix Music VR, a music visualizer shown at the PlayStation Experience for PlayStation VR, may be coming to the Steam platform on PC. That would have meant possible support for Oculus Rift and HTC Vive head-mounted displays (HMDs). Harmonix has now confirmed to VRFocus that this isn’t the case and the title will be an exclusive to Sony Computer Entertainment’s (SCE’s) headset.

Jonathan Carter a designer at Harmonix provided VRFocus with the following statement: “So, a while ago, we sent early development builds to multiple potential partners, and the info leaked from Steam appears to be cataloguing data about one of those builds. At least, that’s what I have to assume. Harmonix Music VR is, in fact, a PlayStation VR exclusive.”

Where this leaked information came from is unknown, but other HMDs like Oculus Rift and HTC Vive won’t be getting Harmonix Music VR after allThe experience had originally been developed for the Gear VR mobile HMD and recently the studio confirmed that VR would play a ‘big part’ of its future as it raised $15,000,000 USD in order to work on new projects. This includes the recently announced Rock Band VR which will be exclusive to Oculus Rift.

VRFocus will continue to follow the latest updates from Harmonix as the developer progresses with its VR projects, reporting back with any further announcements.
