Rock Band VR Coming to the Oculus Rift

Earlier this week it was revealed that Oculus Rift virtual reality (VR) head-mounted display (HMD) creator Oculus VR would be making a ‘special announcement’ at The Game Awards, which are taking place in Los Angeles, California today. Sure enough, company founder and Oculus Rift designer Palmer Luckey has just  announced a brand new videogame for the device via a brand new trailer. As it turns out, Oculus VR is working with Harmonix to bring Rock Band VR to the HMD.

A comedic trailer was revealed in which Palmer Luckey and members of Harmonix teamed up with Dragon Force. Luckey then took to the stage to talk about the project, which has been in the works ‘for a really long time’.

The Oculus Rift itself is expected to launch in the first quarter of 2016, though a specific price and date for the device are yet to be revealed. This information should be announced when pre-orders for the kit finally go live, which is expected to happen before the end of the year. Following its launch in Q1, Oculus VR will also release a set of position tracked controllers known as Oculus Touch in Q2, which the Oculus Rift itself will come bundled with an Xbox One controller.

Oculus VR’s announcement is far from the only VR update fans are anticipating this week. Sony Computer Entertainment’s (SCE’s) PlayStation Experience fan expo will be starting on 5th December and many are hoping to see more news on the company’s own HMD, PlayStation VR for the PlayStation 4. VRFocus will be at the event to deliver the latest updates on the kit and any compatible experiences.
