SORTEDfood Release 360 Degree Cooking Video

With availability for 360 degree video cameras increasing due to companies like Bubl and 360Heros, and sites like YouTube and Facebook supporting the format, filmmakers are finding new ways to produce content. Now YouTube stars SORTEDfood have released their first 360 degree video of a food battle between three of the four presenters.

Part of SORTEDfood’s ‘Ultimate Battle’ series the video  features Mike, Jamie and Barry battling for the title of the ultimate French fry topping, with the viewers having the final say on the winner. The content was created by rigging a specialist 360 camera array to capture the entirety of the studio, with the film being shot in real time and in only one take.

Barry Taylor from SORTEDfood said in a statement: “For us 360 degree filming is all about the immersive experience it offers the viewers. Having everything constantly visible for the whole video allows us to think more creatively about how the video is produced. The fact that every viewer has a completely different experience means that there is so much more we can do to keep everyone engaged.  We can’t wait to experiment more with the technology and hopefully soon create our first 3D 360 video!”

The 360 degree video can be viewed via YouTube on a computer and controlled with a mouse or with the WASD keys. But for the full immersive experience viewers can use the YouTube app on their smartphones with a head-mounted display (HMD) like Google Cardboard or Merge VR.

VRFocus will continue to follow all the latest 360 degree video news, reporting back with the latest announcements.
