Early in the month Sony Computer Entertainment (SCE) released a list of over 100 titles that would be available to play at its PlayStation Experience fan event on 5th – 6th December 2015. The list contained a mix of upcoming indie, AAA and exclusive titles for the PlayStation 4. What it didn’t feature was videogames that would be shown on the PlayStation VR virtual reality (VR) head-mounted display (HMD), which was previously confirmed to be on display at the event. However, the first of what will hopefully be many VR experiences at the show has now been revealed.
Horizon: Zero Dawn developer Guerrilla Games has confirmed that RIGS: Mechanized Combat League, which is in the works at sister studio Guerrilla Cambrdige, will be at the event. Players will be able to go hands-on with the multiplayer experience, which takes the form of a first-person shooter (FPS). It’s not yet been confirmed if the developer will be showcasing any new maps or modes at the event, although it did showcased a new level set in Dubai during its Paris Games Week showing in France last month.
RIGS: Mechanized Combat League is set in a distant future, depicting a popular sport in which humans climb inside the titular mechs and do battle in arenas. So far only one game mode has been revealed in ‘Power Slam’. This sees players work to build up an Overdrive meter. Once activated players must head for a goal located on the map and jump through it to score a point for their team. Rigs also come in different classes, alerting, size, speed, power and other aspects. It’s not yet clear when the title will be launching, although PlayStation VR itself isn’t expected until the first half of 2016.
VRFocus will continue to follow RIGS: Mechanized Combat League closely, reporting back with the latest updates on its progress.
