Stress Level Zero the indie developer behind virtual reality (VR) title Hover Junkers for the HTC Vive head-mounted display (HMD), has released numerous behind-the-scenes development videos on the videogame. In the latest video from the team, they explain why Hover Junkers is ‘VR ONLY’, looking at the immersive technology, being unique and building the videogame from the ground up for VR.
In video Stress Level Zero begin with why the developer created a VR videogame, rather than a standard PC title. Wanting to create something different and VR opened up many new possibilities. Explained is the control system which has been designed to be intuitive and easy to grasp. Using the HTC Vive and Room Scale taking system – Lighthouse, rather than pressing a button on a keyboard to crouch, players simply crouch. Reloads have an immersive element where you flick the motion controllers to lock guns back into place. Also mentioned is aim assist, a feature on many current first-person shooters (FPS) to aid the player. Hover Junkers features no such assistance, a bullet flies in a straight line, so rewarding players who practice their aim.
