Félix & Paul’s LeBron James 360 Series Gets New Episodes, Coming to Oculus

Back in September 2015 social networking giant Facebook launched support for 360 degree videos on its platform. The launch was accompanied with new videos for the likes of Star Wars: The Force Awakens and GoPro cameras. Also included was LeBron James Striving for Greatness, a new 360 video series from popular 360 degree content creators, Félix & Paul Studios. Since the initial launch, new episode of that series have now arrived, with the company also confirming that it is on the way to the Oculus Rift head-mounted display (HMD).

Three episodes of LeBron James Striving for Greatness are now available and can be found over on Félix & Paul Studios’ official Facebook page. Thanks to last week’s Facebook update, these videos can now be viewed using Oculus VR and Samsung’s Gear VR mobile HMD, as well as the iOS operating system (OS) on iPhones. The videos can also be viewed on PCs. They follow the NBA player through his intensive pre-season training sessions. He works with trainer Mike Mancias to be in top form ahead of his 13th season, taking part in sessions such as yoga, Pilates, swimming, biking, weight lifting and, of course, basketball training.

Videos such as these are proving popular even before consumer HMDs really take off. They’re most commonly seen on YouTube, supporting the Google Cardboard HMD on Android (with iOS support also expected in the near future), but Facebook’s app doesn’t yet support this HMD. It remains to be seen how most of this type of content will be distributed when Oculus VR launches the consumer version of the Oculus Rift on PC in Q1 2016, though expect Facebook to update its platform to support the device given then it owns Oculus VR itself.

VRFocus will continue to follow any and all 360 degree content, reporting back with the latest updates.
