Sony: Over 200 Developers Working on PlayStation VR

Sony Computer Entertainment’s (SCE’s) virtual reality (VR) head-mounted display (HMD), PlayStation VR, is fast approaching. The device, which runs on the PlayStation 4 console, is set to launch in the first half of 2016, though SCE is yet to announce a more specific release date and price. What the company has announced today, however, is that over 200 developers are currently working with its hardware.

SCE’s Shuhei Yoshida confirmed as much during the company’s Paris Games Week (PGW) press conference in France today. A handful of these developers even made some appearances from the likes of Guerrilla Cambridge with RIGS: Mechanised Combat League to Polyphony Digital with the newly announced Gran Turismo Sport.

PlayStation VR boasts a 1080p OLED display with a 120 Hz refresh rate. With this screen, developers are able to ‘reproject’ experiences that run natively at 60fps in 120fps. The device is also compatible with the PlayStation Move motion controller for more immersive control.

VRFocus will continue to follow PlayStation VR closely, reporting back with the latest updates on its progress.
