MAG Studios Announces CDF Starfighter with VR Support

MAG Studios is a name that those in the virtual reality (VR) community should be aware of. Last year saw the UK-based developer release its VR horror title, CDF Ghostship. The first-person experience was one of the first full releases for one of the development kits of the Oculus Rift head-mounted display (HMD). Now the team is following that title up with another VR-compatible entry in the CDF series, CDF Starfighter. The first teaser trailer for the experience can now be seen below.

Greenlit last month, the developer claims that CDF Starfighter mixes 90s space combat with next generation technology – specifically Epic Games’ Unreal Engine 4 – and is designed for VR. It’s solely focused on space combat, inspired by series such as Wing Commander and, of course, Star Wars. Missions will feature a number of objective types such as Escort, Defensive and Offensive tasks. The developer hasn’t yet said which HMDs the title will support though, given CDF Ghostship integrated the Oculus Rift, this could well be one of the supported devices.

Having been in development since January of this year, CDF Starfighter is set to offer both single-player and multiplayer modes. MAG Studios is hoping to launch the title in early 2016. The space combat genre is already a competitive one within the VR scene, but CDF Starfighter‘s suite of modes and influences do seem to set it apart from strictly single-player and multiplayer only experiences such as EVERSPACE and EVE: Valkyrie respectively.

VRFocus will continue to follow CDF Starfighter closely, reporting back with the latest updates on the title.
