Popular virtual reality (VR) compatible space simulator, Elite: Dangerous, will soon be getting a new season of updates and expansions containing brand new features. The new season, titled Elite: Dangerous Horizons, is coming before the end of the year and is highlighted with planetary landings. Recently creator Frontier Developments revealed a brand new video that provides a quick glimpse of one such planet that players can expect to touch down on.
The team’s David Braben provided the very short clip seen below, which starts next to a player in a buggy on a planet’s surface and then, over the course of 20 seconds, zooms out all the way to a view of the same planet from space. After the camera gets further away players can pick out small details from the surface, including their own ship and what appears to be the wreckage of another that has crashed.
Players will be able to visit these planets using the HTC Vive head-mounted display, support for which will be arriving in a free update this holiday season. The title is also expected to update its support for the Oculus Rift HMD latter down the line, as Frontier Developments has not made it compatible with Oculus VR’s latest software development kit (SDK), 0.7. That said, the developer will hopefully return to this support once SDK 1.0 launches in December 2015.
VRFocus will continue to follow Elite: Dangerous closely, reporting back with any further updates on the title.
