Officially opened at the Thomson Reuters building in New York’s Times Square last week was 3D virtual reality (VR) event “Experience Day of Beautiful China.” The global tour event, hosted by the China Intercontinental Communication Center (CICC) will allow visitors to experience over 100 of Chinas scenic destinations in immersive VR.
Created as a virtual tourism platform, “Experience Day of Beautiful China”, looks to overcome the limitations imposed by language, location, time and season giving a more vivid and engaging insight into the country than traditional means such as video, photos or websites.
CICC deputy director Jing Shuiqing said in a statement, “Travel is not just about enjoying the scenery or taking a relaxing vacation, it also about helping us understand different cultures as well as gain experience and a deeper understanding while on the journey. By applying 3D technology, we hope our guests discover the charm that is China.”
In terms of tourism 2.09 million Americans visited China as tourists in 2014, while 2.18 million Chinese visitors travelled to the United States, according to China’s National Bureau of Statistics. The World Travel and Tourism Council has predicted that in 2015, the tourism industry will maintain its prompt growth and, in terms of its contribution to global GDP, grow by a further 3.7 percent.
“Experience Day of Beautiful China” will be touring the US further before heading around the world, with the next country likely to be Japan. VRFocus will continue to follow all the latest news and events to do with VR and report back.
