PolyDigital quietly launched eerie adventure videogame The Facility via Steam Early Access earlier this month. However, shortly after launch the development team withdrew the title and has since announced a change in their plans, with a free demo version of the videogame coming down the line.
“We have been listening to your thoughts and feedback and we have come to the conclusion that the best thing for the sake of the game would be to pull it of steam for the time being,” states the development team in an update to The Facility‘s official Steam Early Access page. “We really apologize, we made a mistake releasing the game to early access too early. We have decided to create a free demo featuring the horror elements of the game so that we may show you what the game is like the majority of the time. [sic]”
The update goes on to discuss some of the criticisms of The Facility and it’s apparent comparisons to Wolfenstein: The Old Blood: “Many of you have been worried about the “Wolfenstein The Old Blood” first level being very similair to our level. Because we go trough a lot of reference and concept art, we have made the mistake of using the same layout as one of those images. We were not aware of this when we released the demo. This will definitely be changed. We can assure you that no geometry, textures or other content have been ripped or stolen from the game. [sic]”
Exactly what PolyDigital now have planned for The Facility beyond this forthcoming free demo is not currently know. At launch The Facility was compatible with the Oculus Rift head-mounted display (HMD) with the suggestion that other virtual reality (VR) devices may be supported in due course. VRFocus will of course keep you updated with all the latest details on The Facility.
