This week sees popular middleware provider Unity Technologies host its Unite developer conference in Boston, Massachusetts. The company has already held its keynote talk today which, as expected, placed a big emphasis on its latest engine, Unity 5, and its comprehensive support for both virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) head-mounted displays (HMDs). In fact, the company even showcased an impressive new sizzle reel, showing off a handful of the VR videogames being developed with Unity 5. That montage can now be seen below.
Featured in the 2-minute video are Owlchemy Labs’ Job Simulator, Fireproof Games’ Omega Agent, Iris VR’s Technolust, Vertigo Games’ Skyworld, Mindfield Games’ Pollen, Space Bullet Dynamics Corporation’s Vox Machinae, Frame’s Headmaster, Cloudhead Games’ The Gallery: Call of the Starseed, Honor Code’s Narcosis, ustwogames’ Land’s End, Playful Corp’s Lucky’s Tale, Tiltbrush, and Schell Games’ I Expect You to Die. A glimpse at ZeroLight’s ZeroLight Visiualization and Configurator Feat. Pagani Huayra is also seen.
This is actually some of the best footage available for some of these projects, and each gets a good amount of screen time. It also covers everything from exclusives to each HMD (for example: Lucky’s Tale for Oculus Rift, Job Simulator for HTC Vive, Headmaster for PlayStation VR and Land’s End for Gear VR), as well as a wide range of multiplatform content. Unity 5 will also be adding support for Microsoft’s mixed reality (VR) HMD, HoloLens, in the future, so expect later sizzle reels to start including this kind of footage as well.
Unity Technologies recently updated its engine to Unity 5.2, which added support for the PlayStation VR HMD for PlayStation 4 for the first time. The company is even hosting a VR and AR conference next year.
VRFocus will continue to follow any and all VR videogames, reporting back with the latest updates on them.
